Just a one more day till HeroesCon 2011!  I thought I would show a couple new things that I will have available at this years show, a new Deadpool print and my third installment of my hand made sketchbooks.(Thats right "hand made", I print, staple and fold all these bad boys all by myself)  This sketchbook is my favorite by far so I'm excited to introduce it at the show.  Hope everyone likes it.  I put up the Wolverine drawing that I was trying to get ready as a print for Heroes, but just didn't have enough time to pull it off.  Hopefully I will have it ready for the next con, which will probably be New York Comic Con (if I can get in again).  As for Heroes this weekend, I will be in artist alley at table AA-833.  Beside me again will be Adam Goudelock (AA-842) and Chris Uminga and Matt Fletcher (AA-841).  And welcome back Kim Feigenbaum and Jay (her husband).  Also joining me at my end of the table will be Kelsey Gagnon, who will have a special little book that she made just for you to enjoy.  So come by if you can and say hello, should be a fun weekend!

Well it's that time of year again.  CONVENTIONS!!  First up is Emerald City Comic Con!  It's only a week away and I'm almost ready for it.  (What a surprise...well I'm shocked.)  I will be in the artist alley, table number H-6.  I shall be beside my convention counterparts Matt Fletcher and Chris Uminga once again.  So if you are in Seattle come say hello.  I'm bringing sketchbooks this time around so be sure to stop by and pick one up.  I will be doing commissions and selling prints too.

In an effort to post more stuff on the blog I'm going to share more of the in progress sketches from some of the commissions that I'm working on.  This Planet of the Apes piece is my current challenge, I actually started this back at the New York Comic Con and am now just getting it finished up. (Hope the owner is not to pissed at me for taking so long, sorry.)  I'll put up some more finished commissions next go around.

Oh and I can say for sure now that my first con for the 2011 year is going to be Emerald City Comicon.  (Thanks to Chris Uminga and Matt Fletcher!)  Last year was the first time I had been out there and I fell in love with the city and I'm so happy I get to go back and visit again.

What an amazing show! One of the best I've had the pleasure to experience so far. I couldn't believe how big this show was... there were so many people at this thing. When I did get up from the table to walk the floor, it was so freaking busy, such a good sign to see that. I think the artist out numbered the actual venders selling comics. My friend Adam came out with me so I wouldn't be going at it alone, big thank you to him for doing that, even though it wasn't that hard convincing him to go. Also, my friends Chris Uminga and Matt Fletcher had their tables right next to ours this time around too, so we all got to hang out a lot over the weekend. They have recently started doing some sick looking digital pieces in their art, so please check out their sites. I got to meet lots of wonderful people at the show and outside of it too. (one very special person in particular, which I hope to get to see again someday). Thanks again to those whose stopped by to say hello. You made the trip even more enjoyable. Chris was kind enough to introduce me to the very talented Christina Strain (my all time favorite colorist). Even though I turned all fan boy on her and couldn't hardly say a word without looking like an idiot. (cough*... loser). We even got to go to the Chesterfest, which I was totally nervous to be at, but still pretty fun. Seeing all the professionals in one room away from the con was pretty exciting.

We stayed an extra day after the con was over to actually walk around and explore Seattle. I kind of broke the bank doing it, but it was so worth it. I never really get to look around at the places we usually go to for cons because we always leave as soon as it's over. We did the tourist thing and walked up toward the Space Needle and took tons of pictures. Next time I go out that way I'm defiantly going out to see some of the surrounding areas away from the city. It was such a beautiful place and all the people there were so nice. I could really see myself living there at some point in my life. So... thank you Seattle for being such a wonderful place and I will be back next year for another Emerald City Con.

I know I've been absent from posting on the blog the last couple of months (due to some f-ed up stuff in my personal life), but I'm getting over it now and ready to get back to work on my art. No more feeling mopey and shit, got to wake the f up and get back to what makes me happy and that being, drawing comics.

Emerald City Comic Con This Weekend

I know it's a month late but I thought I'd share my experience of the Baltimore Con. All I can say is wow, the show was pretty incredible. Marc Nathan and crew put together one heck of a convention.
Some of the highlights for me were that I finally got to meet one of my favorite artist there, J Scott Campbell. Only had to stand in line for like 30 or 40 minutes, but it was worth it. I also got to hang out with Chris Uminga and Matt Fletcher, always nice to see those guys. Chris was even kind enough to suggest to Scott Adsit of 30 Rock to come over to the table and check out my art. That was a pretty exciting experience to be able to chat with him about his work in film and our love of comics. But the best thing was that he commissioned me to do a piece in his League of Extraordinary Gentlemen themed sketch book. I was dumb founded at this because he had a ton of other cool artist renditions in these books (such as Adam Hughes, Eric Canete, Darwin Cooke, Tim Sale, the list goes on). Lets just say that I did not feel worthy enough to be included. I sweated that pic the whole night on Saturday, but I finally came up with a Captain Nemo for him (sorry about the pic above, it was the only one that came out).
The con only being two days went by so quick, but I'm thankful that I was able to stay busy throughout the weekend. Thanks again to all those that came by and said hello. I had so much fun meeting everyone and I will definitely be attending next years show.

Hickory Con Fall '09

Here are couple of commission that I did yesterday at the Hickory Con. The pictures I took of these two are really not that good, but you get the idea. I tried out the card board thing again with the Batman bust and I love the tonal effect I got with it. Thanks again to everyone that stopped by to say hello.

Hello! Wow, HeroesCon was so much fun this year and exhausting. Took me a couple of days to recuperate from it. I guess starting it out with lack of sleep really didn't help either, but I got through it. I was able to get through a good portion of the commissions that I took on, but I still have a stack to get through this week. For those of you that I said I will mail back, I'm working on them as fast as I can. I'm hoping to have them finished up by the end of the week to mail back to everyone. I can't thank everyone enough who came by the table and took a look at our art. We even got some professionals to come by and give us some pretty good feed back. I posted some of the better looking commissions that I did at the show. Sorry they are so blurry, I only had my camera to capture them. If anyone would like to send me scans of any of these please do. I would love to have a better record of them.

Since I was working pretty much the whole time I didn't get to walk around the con like I wanted. Which is probably a good thing since I didn't spend as much money as I usually do. I did however get around to see Dustin Nguyen, where I was able to pick up one of my favorite pictures that he did of all the red haired women of comics and he even did a small head sketch of Batman. I also met a really cool colorist named Rico Renzi, check out his awesome body of work. He commissioned the Batgirl picture (above), which is great because I was able to do some more shading work instead of just coloring it in with markers. I had a good mix of commissions this time around. Well enough talk, need to get back to work. I will post up the pictures as I finish them. Heroes Con this weekend

I'm finished and ready to head out the door to Charlotte. Took me all day to finish this Thor up and get my sketchbook printed, but all is done and ready for sale. I only printed 15 books, so we will see how they do. Never done one before so I hope people will be interested in them. The con officially starts tomorrow at 11:00 am, so I'm off to the hotel now. Hope to meet a ton of really cool fans and artist. If you are in the area please stop by the convention and say hi.

Here is the final colors for my Psylocke piece. Wish I had more time to come up with a better background, but I needed to close the door on this one. I have Thor left to color up before leaving for the Heroes Con this weekend. I'm also trying to finish up a little 2009 Sketchbook for this years show. It will probably end up being 20 pages or so with mostly line art and some commission work that I've done from the past year or so. I will post more about it later.

The other exciting news, at least I think of it as pretty cool, is that my Nightcrawler piece was chosen to be on the Daily Devaitions page on Devaint Art.com. That blew my mind, never even knew about that before. I have gotten a ton of responses since they posted that up, it's amazing how many people are on that site.

Been a week or so since I last updated, so I thought I'd share this Psylocke that I just finished up. I haven't decided if I want the glowy hand thing or not, I'll fix it when I go to color it. Hopefully will have this ready as a print for Heroes Con. (Just a week left yahh!) And just a reminder I will be set up in artist alley with a couple of friends of mine, Adam and Kim, table SP-340. Well as you can see this years Animazement was really successful and a lot of fun. I finished every commission that I took on and even sold out a print. I know that's not much but it was quite an accomplishment for me. I usually have to finish up commissions at home and mail them out. We also tried out a new set up for the table and it worked perfectly. Even when people were looking through the books on the table you could still see some of the prints hanging above. Probably the best set up so far. Each year we do this we seem to get more and more sales. Hopefully our Heroes Con will be even better and we can get even more exposure.
I included several blurry pictures of the commissions that I did. Wish I had a scanner to get that Chun Li image, it turned out rather nice. And I think that is the first time that I drew a decent looking Superman. I'm still trying to get used to drawing on those small sketch cards so those were not some of my favorite pieces this time around.
All in all this Animazement was the best so far and I think a lot of that had to do with changing the venue site to the Raleigh Convention Center. It had so much more space for all the people to run around and not feel so cluttered up being stuck against a wall. The artist alley was pretty much contained inside one giant ballroom which was nice being separated from all the chaos that goes on outside.

Well, I'm off to finish up a ton of work for the Heroes Con, which is in 3 weeks. I will try to post anything new as I finish up stuff. Keep checking back.

Next Stop Animazement '09...

I have just few more hours before I get on the road to my next convention. If you are in Raleigh, NC this weekend, stop by the convention center for Animazement, I will be in the artist alley room with my friend Adam (check his site out). I will have prints of just about everything related to this blog available, plus I will be doing con sketches and commissions. This is one of the craziest cons I attend all year. Hope to meet some nice folks and sell some art. Please come by I would love to meet ya.

And I finally finished up the colors on this Nightcrawler that has been sitting around for a while now. Had to change up the color scheme a little bit because there was way to much pink and purple for my taste. I tried out a green and orange glow for the bamf smoke and it stuck so I'm quite pleased with it now. Hickory Con

I had a great time at the Hickory Con this past Saturday. Met some cool artist and got to hang out with ones that I knew from previous cons. I tried my hand at doing some of these sketch card commissions for folks this con. I've never done them before and was curious to see if people would like them. I was working on a Wolverine to show as an example and before I could finish it people were already asking me to do them one. I posted three that I got pictures of before I gave them out (sorry for the blurriness). They are pretty tiny to draw detail stuff so I might keep them to just close ups and busts. But this is something that I will defiantly try out again.

Well the Boone Comicon turned out to be a fun little con. For being such a small town convention, a lot of people came through. Saw people I knew from work and met some cool new artist that were local to the surrounding areas. I also found out from the guys running the con, that the next one will be in October, so hopefully they will keep it going for years to come. The only thing that bumed me out was that no one wanted any commissions. But I did draw up this Batman sketch while I sat there, thought it turned out pretty nice. I drew it on that semi-smooth bristol from Strathmore and I made a very cool discovery with it. No matter how much I saturated the paper with the markers, it did not bleed through to the other side at all. Very amazing stuff.

Boone Comicon Tomorrow

Hello, sorry for the delay in posts this week. I have been trying to finish up some stuff before the Boone Comicon tomorrow. If you are in the area, please come by and support the con. I will be doing 8x10 character head sketches in color for $10 if anyone is interested. I will also be selling prints and original art as well.

Thought I'd share this Shazam drawing that I did last year for a commission. I've wanted to recolor it for awhile now because I was not very pleased with how the first version turned out. I spent a few hours working on it one night this week and was so into it that I totally forgot to save it from time to time (stupid mistake). Well, my computer decided to do an update, which resulted in a restart of my system and all that work disappeared. So actually this is the third version of this little drawing. But I'm finally starting to get comfortable with Photoshop again and hopefully I can produce more colorful and dynamic images this year. This image will be available as a print at this years cons too.
